Hope

We look for it every single day.

We look for it in the rising of the sun in the morning or in the stars as they patiently wait on the moon to rise at night.

We look for it in the eyes of a child, or in the face of a broken man as he rises from the ashes.

We look for it in a TV show, a book, or a song.

We look for it in the words of other people when ours don't seem to be good enough.

And when we find it, that hope we’ve been searching so hard for, what do we do with it? Do we stand in front of the mirror and wipe our tears away? Do we look deep into our own eyes and say ‘I’m going to make it’?

What if when we find it, we then realize it isn’t enough? Do we find ourselves back in the same place we were, right at the edge of a cliff we want to jump off of just as much as we want to turn away from, at the meeting of the beginning and end? Do we end up torn between the fear of not being able to make it and the fear of being successful?

Or do we finally look into ourselves, into our own souls, and find that hope waiting for us? Do we cherish it, hold it, and let it heal us? Do we let it replace the pieces of our heart that were lost on the messy path of our lives?

Life, as tragic and scary as it may be, is also so beautiful. We might not be able to see it sometimes due to the tears blurring our vision, but the beauty is there; and so is hope.

Maybe, we just weren't ready to see it.
